A desperate mother is forced to break the law in order to protect her children from her abusive ex-husband, and rely on the kindness of strangers who help battered spouses to escape their tyrannical mates via an elaborate "underground railway" system. Terrified of her abusive ex-husband Dennis but powerless to escape his brutal grasp due to a paralysing court ruling, Jocelyn determined to shield her children from his malevolent grasp even if it means breaking the law. Later, as the selfless Jim attempts to help Jocelyn and her kids escape to a distant town where they can start a new life, the police and a shady detective hired by Dennis threaten to prevent their flight from harm.
